One closet at a time.

I have several closets, rooms, shelves that need to be organized.
Getting rid of clutter just feels great doesn't it?

I'm starting one closet at a time, and just taking it slow.
All to often we have huge dreams of doing things overnight.
I'm learning that with 5 children nothing happens overnight, and something always will come up. ;)

This is the closet in my bathroom.  It doesn't have any doors, and I was tired of seeing a mess.
I was ready to make it look pretty, and organized.
Honestly, I just put everything where it "really" belonged. ;)
I have a huge linen closet upstairs, I had just gotten lazy and not wanted to carry everything up there.

It feels so much better to go in now, and see such a nice neat closet.
I had everything I used already.  The very top shelf are my paper towels.

How are your organization projects going?

A tad darker.

Last winter we added the faux board and batten...
Which I LOVE, and because I LOVE it, I wanted it to really look sharp!
This meant going darker in the living room.  I also wanted a hint more gray, while staying blue, but still neutral.
After looking at...ummm...about 7 different colors...I finally narrowed it down to 3.
The winner was...WINTER FLANNEL by Valspar.

It's simply FABULOUS!

Love how it makes all the white and stairs just POP! :)

You can see my dresser redo here...

After putting away all the decorations...I still left out my little splurge this year.
The middle pillow is Pottery Barn, and I purchased it off ebay.
It's just PERFECT!

The door above the stairs just really catches you eye now...Love all my babies!  :)

I'm so pleased with the new paint color.
It turned out just right!

I'm SOUTHERN and I know it.

I'm SOUTHERN and I know it...:)

I was raised in GA, but married an IA man.  IA is where we've made our home, and I like IA.
BUT...I'll always be from the SOUTH!
(I tell my children that they're half  southern.) ;)

Paint it black.

               BEFORE                                         &                                 AFTER
I've had this dresser for almost 2 years now...  You can read about it's original drab to fab here...DRESSER.

We just recently painted the living room.
Which I'll post about later. :)  And I was ready to redo the decor on the dresser.  I found wonderful inspiration of course from Pinterest.
The burlap wreath I bought off ebay, and have LOVED ever since.  I just didn't know how I was going to use it.  Then I saw some wonderful ideas of hanging it with a mirror.  Well I didn't have a mirror... :(  but now worries, that's what the community swap is for on FB in my local area.  I put out an ISO on the swap group, and within an hour someone posted this lovely black mirror.
I paid $20 for it, and it was perfect for what I had in mind.
Still not "loving" the arrangement, especially with the new paint color.  I decided to paint the frame of the mirror silver, and the dresser a black gloss.

 It turned out great!
I'm sure I'll be changing some things up here and there on it, but for now it'll do. ;)
I bought the lamp shades at Walmart...I'm enjoying them.
 Everything else I already had.
The white pitcher is from Target, and it's probably one of favorite things I have.
The chalkboard silver tray I made almost 4 years ago, and it's one of those I put away, and then bring back out.

The burlap wreath will be fun to decorate according to the seasons.  :)

Have a wonderful Sunday everyone!

Catching up

Hello, Friends

How is everyone?  A few updated pics of Our Thrifty Nest of 7...

I'm hoping, Lord willing, to return to blogging.  Maybe a post every two weeks might be possible. Ha!
Here we are during Thanksgiving.  It was a wonderful and blessed 2012!
We started another school year at Ames Christian School, and our oldest started his first year of public school.  We are now Gilbert Tiger fans.  Go, Gilbert!  I also was the chairman for the Christian School's 3rd Annual One Starry Night Gala.  It was a wonderful evening.
My wonderful husband and me...I'm a very blessed woman!
This is our third son, and he's ready to play football this year just like his older two brothers.
Our youngest little fella turned the BIG ONE!!  He's such a sweet content blessing!!
Our baby girl all dressed up for her Christmas Eve supper with family.
This is our oldest and youngest...12 years difference, but they just adore each other.  He calls him his 'bubbie."
.We're about to wrap up our first year wrestling season for two of our boys, and one of our boys just started his basketball season.

I hope in the next couple days or so to share with you some house projects been going on.
I just repainted the living room, and a few other projects.

Hoping y'all had a wonderful 2012, and look forward to 2013!

Blessings,
